Earlier this week a new Talking Heads Instagram account launched that was created by guitarist Jerry Harrison‘s team to beat a domain squatter looking to take the account for themselves. Until their team had come out and clarified that publicly, it looked as though we could have another Oysterhead or Rage Against the Machine situation on our hands, namely, that a premature social media launch could mean a reunion is coming (even if an unlikely prospect, like Mötley Crüe). Nothing feels probable until you see a new Instagram account with that legendary Talking Heads name at the top, right?!
David Byrne was able to clarify with Rolling Stone that this was not something he was a part of. “I have never heard of this,” he said. “I don’t know what it is or who is doing it, so clearly it can’t be a ‘official’ Talking Heads account.” Yeesh. I guess that’s pretty definitive then, but he goes on to say that “whatever plans others in the band may have is strictly their own business and I wish them well.” I guess that’s that. Dang.
Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz also sounded off on this, mostly just stating what Byrne had said and that this was more under Harrison’s control and likely to support the Turkuaz + Adrian Belew + Jerry Harrison set of dates next year where they’ll honor the Remain In Light LP.
Case closed for now. Hopefully the story revives itself eventually, as we’re humongous fans of the project and would give a few arms and legs to see something like this on stage again.
