I’m back from a day of panels and partying down here in Austin for the South by Southwest conference, and I’m already beat from two full days of boozing, schmoozing, and information-overload management. I did see a killer band last night called White Denim, but today was light on music and heavy on tech jokes and bloggerati sightings.
As I dig back into some sort of normalcy tomorrow and catch up on some blog posts that deserve to get written, let’s take a look back at the stuff we wrote last week. If that doesn’t do it for you, maybe you’ll be excited to know that The Beatles catalog will finally be up on iTunes for purchase at some point in the near future. It was only a matter of time.

Photo by Craynol Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past year, you know that an election is coming up. You’re probably familiar with the players involved; they’ve been hoofing it across the country for months, stumping… - Crystal Castles, HEALTH | Abbey Pub, Chicago – 2.27.08
Two relatively new and definitely up-and-coming bands played Chicago’s Abbey Pub last Wednesday night to a raucous crowd. I was one of the lucky souls to have attended the musical mayhem that ranged from unrelenting noise-rock to poppy house…. - Jeff Healey: 3/25/66 – 3/2/08
Sad news out of Canada today. Jeff Healey, one of the most distinctive guitarists I have ever heard, passed away in a Toronto hospital on Sunday. He was 42. Having lost his eyesight to retinal cancer at the age of… - The Cornelius Band @ Metro, Chicago, IL – 1/28/08
I wake up every morning and sigh when the realization sets in about how late this review is. Procrastination has become my mistress and I’m starting to feel guilty. This all started back around 2000 when I saw Cornelius… - SXSW 2008: Let the Prep Begin
Most of the time I’ll be spending on the site this week will be geared about the upcoming indie-rocker wet-dream of a music festival that I like to call SXSW 2008. I went last year and swore that I’d do… - A Look Back at Langerado 2007 | Day One
Langerado 2008 is approaching quickly, folks. As this year’s gathering expands to four-days, we thought it would be a good opportunity to take a look back at the musical feast that was last years event. Today’s focus is Friday, with… - Jammys Announced, Phish Lifetime Achievement Award
I’m happy to see that the news on the return of the Jammys was announced today; I had it on good authority from a friend a while back and I was embargoed and had to keep it quiet. Not to… - SXSW 2008: NPR Music Webcast Schedule
NPR Music has lined up a nice set of webcasts live and direct from this year’s SXSW Music Festival. These are basically the shows I plan on hitting, so listen for me next to Bob Boilen when he introduces the… - Heady Links
Whoah, brah. It has been way too long since we’ve done a proper Heady Links post on the blog. For some reason, I tend to go back and forth on the name of this here column (if we can even… - Plug Independent Music Awards Tonight
Our friend Bready is going to be checking out the Plug Awards tonight at Terminal 5, assuming his cold doesn’t force him into bed early. I’m hoping he’ll have some of his fantastic photography to share with us from… - A Look Back at Langerado 2007 | Day 2
This year’s Langerado festival begins today, so there’s just enough time now to post some photos from last year to wet your whistle for the 2008 recaps. For the play-by-play, check out WHITperson’s day two recap. For a look at… - A Look Back at Langerado 2007 | Day 3
And now we come to day three. The final day of a festival is always a bit of a bummer for me. You know you’re coming to the end, definitely in the need of a little more sleep, and yet… - Road Recovery – 10th Anniversary Benefit Concert
I’ve known the people at Road Recovery for years, and today got word of a very interesting show they have put together. In honor of their tenth anniversary Road Recovery is putting on a benefit show at the Nokia Theater… - SXSW 2008 | If I were going…

When I hear about a band made up of the children of rock stars I’m often skeptical, wondering if they would be getting the notice they are without their lineage. With TAB the Band, I have no such concerns. Their… - Phish Friday | Classic Covers and Seamless Segues
photo by ANTELOPE! Phish always chose great cover songs. Some were ‘bust-outs’ or just silly takes on pop tunes. But Phish also had a rotation of key, classic rock songs that they played frequently and almost as if they… - Langerado 2008 Begins!

For those of you at home this weekend and not attending either Langerado (like Drew) or SXSW (like me), you may be in luck in the live music department. It looks like the good folks over at iClips are webcasting… - Radiohead, NIN to Headline Lollapalooza 2008
Radiohead and NIN are going to be headlining Lollapalooza 2008. We had a good idea that this was going to happen already, and while it’s not an official announcement yet, anything that comes off of Greg Kot’s keyboard is usually…
