Jazz Fest is in full swing for Weekend Two and our good friend Jim Brock is covering the festival for us from the photo pit. He sent us this gallery from yesterday’s activity at the fairgrounds along with a few key highlights. —Editor
No real “big” names, so a great day to go local. Stanton’s Jazz trio killed ii and the guy suited up for the occasion. Johnny Sansone in the Blues Tent. New Orleans Suspects at Acura were strong, too. The Soul Rebels had guest twerkers, The Wailers were way too effing loud, pummeling those within two stages with enough low end to pulverize any undigested food. Unplugged strings abounded with Greensky Bluegrass at FDD (with their dobro player sporting a Mint LA shirt), String Cheese Incident closed out Acura and Lyle Lovett did a beautiful acoustic set at the other end – a 5 piece featuring a cellist, upright bass, guitar/mandolin, Lyle and Russ Kunkel on drums — all suits and skinny ties.
