Philly’s Jam on the River 2008 | Flaming Lips, Disco Biscuits Headline

Philadelphia’s annual ‘Jam on the River’ has announced its 2008 lineup. Once again, local electronic rockers, the Disco Biscuits, will return for their 6th year to headline the two-day mini-festival. This year, they’ll be balanced out by the Flaming Lips. The event will take place on May 24-25 at Penn’s Landing, and includes the following:
Saturday, May 24th:
The Flaming Lips
RJD2
Josh Ritter
Bassnectar
Sunday, May 25th:
The Disco Biscuits
Deadmau5
Avett Brothers
Lotus
Tom Hamilton & American Babies
Although I feel like last year’s lineup was a bit more intriguing than this one, JOTR always does a good job mixing acts from around the country with plenty of local Philly talent (Disco Biscuits, Lotus, Tom Hamilton, etc…).
Last year’s events also included a few late night shows at the Electric Factory to continue the party Philly-style. No word yet of any similar late-night festivities, but those might be on their way with the official launch of the JOTR website. Late-night shows have now been announced, and include the following:
May 23 2008 – The New Deal @ The Fillmore @ The TLA
May 24 2008 – The Disco Biscuits @ The Electric Factory
May 25 2008 – Dark Star Orchestra @ The Electric Factory
May 25 2008 – Conspirator / RJD2 @ The Fillmore @ The TLA
Anyone have any pictures of the girls dancing on the left side of the stage? Or, know of a site that posts pictures. My daughter got picked to go up on stage and of course I did not have a camera.
Well… i thought i line up wasn’t bad. Disco Bs were a little on the crazy side this performance n the crowd had a great varity of different people of different ages. lips were amazing n i looooved the naked ladies at the end… BASSNECTOR… too good for words… oh yeah n lotus should’ve played on saturday… yet they ROCKED out on the sunday show!! i had a crazy weird time n i will def do this agian next year… ohh yeah more hip hop!!! holla be safe

Speaking of tool….they should get Tool to headline this thing. You guys want a music festival, I recommend traveling to Milwaukee Summerfest. It’s worth the trip dudes, trust me. Look it up…
Wow, you guys are hostile… Alright, so I mean, a few things… You can’t call DB, DSO, New Deal, RJD2, Flaming Lips, Deadmau5, or Bassnectar unknown bands. They just maybe aren’t known to you.
That said, yes this is a fairly alright show, but its far from putting Philly on the legit festival scene. It’ll be fun for those who are there today, but I’ve seen pretty much all of the bands, in much friendlier venues for their musics, and not had to deal with hordes of people to do so…
And yes, this surely isn’t the festival it used to be or should be. Blues, jazz, rock, latin, and a million other styles could and should be represented better; they all have a pretty strong foundation of musicians/fans here.
So count me out. Probably.

This lineup SUCKS! Come on Philly! This used to be an awesome festival filled with famous blues acts. Then it morphed into the Jumbalaya Jam, which was the blues festival with a tolerable blend of New Orleans flare. Now it’s a bunch of no name, B-talent lack luster bands. Way to go, Philly. Why is it so hard to have a great fesitival instead of just an ok one with crappy, barely known bands?!!

They re-create Dead songs; I think that would be a good argument for “limited talent”.

It takes robot ears to consider it music, or drugs I guess, either way the repetative nature of there sound is just annoying than euphoric, kind of a waste of a perfectly good time. DSO a fun time, but can sometimes be lame. Dark Star makes their living as a cover band. Even seeing Phil or the Dead without Jerry has started to get boring, but a Dead cover band? That’s like going to a free show in a suburb, and not original at all.
