Yonrico Scott, drummer for the old Derek Trucks Band, has reportedly passed away. He had worked with The Derek Trucks Band, created the Yonrico Scott Band, and later worked with the Royal Southern Brotherhood with Cyril Neville.
A message was shared with his fans via Blue Canoe Records.
It is with a heavy heart that we share the news on the passing of Blue Canoe Recording Artist Yonrico Scott. Mr. Scott was a drummer, percussionist, vocalist, visual artist, educator, and a true friend and champion of our label. Yonrico released four albums for Blue Canoe and worked with many in the industry such as Derek Trucks, Earl Klugh, Whitney Houston, Peabo Bryson, Col. Bruce Hampton, Royal Southern Brotherhood and so many more. The people he touched with his gifts is unmeasurable. His spirit will live on and we ask that you pray for his family during this difficult time.

Just woke up to the saddest news that my dear friend and fellow drummer Yonrico Scott passed away. I have shared kits, shows, long drives and so much more with Rico from Derek Trucks to Royal Southern Brotherhood – the last time we shared a kit at #georgiaproductionday we actually switched mid song without losing a beat – never mind the hundreds of shows and hangs in between. There is not a kinder, more gentle soul with a deep groove pocket and tolerance for all the shenanigans that comes along with playing and touring with other musicians. RIP Rico, you will be truly missed…
