Back home in Chicago my buddy Mike introduced me to the first notes I had heard of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, a Portland based indie rock band that has a bit of that MGMT-style garage psychedelia that bodes really well for their recorded material. Everything I’ve heard so far is great. The band is playing in LA for free tonight and has a ton of tour dates in the near future with bands like The Submarines, Toro Y Moi, Little Dragon, Times New Viking, Woven Bones, Blouse and Man/Miracle.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra already has an insane touring schedule for the rest of 2011, today the band added even more North American dates to their tour, which will find the band headlining in October. The band is in Los Angeles this week for a pair of free shows, tonight at Bardot as part of the School Night series and Weds. they will play an in-store performance at 7pm at Origami Vinyl in Echo Park.
