Dead & Company just closed off Night #5 of their Summer Tour 2021 at Bethel Woods in New York, right where that infamous Woodstock ’69 event went down. As a nod to the Grateful Dead’s appearance there, the band revisited what they played as their set two and gave it a fitting rendition.
For set one, the band opened with a nice jam that led into “Hell in a Bucket” before breaking out “Easy Wind” soon after. I loved hearing “Throwin’ Stones” and always psyched when “Loser” makes an appearance.
Set two is when the real magic went down, though. To start the set, Bob Weir stepped up to the mic and said that their set at Woodstock 50 years ago didn’t go so well and that they were going to try it again. So the set delivered what was meant to be, including an absolutely stunning “Dark Star.”
What a show.
