Los Lobos | 2007 Acoustic Tour Dates

Los Lobos is a band I’ve been getting into slowly but surely over the past couple years. The band “from East LA” has gained plenty of attention recently as a result of last year’s release of The Town and The City.

And here’s what I love about Los Lobos and why they get the attention they deserve — they follow up last year’s touring schedules with a Spring acoustic tour to smaller markets. They’re mixing it up and appealing to as many audiences as they can be taken seriously in front of. It’s really a smart idea and one that many bands don’t really fully utilize — strip it down, make it special, make it intimate, make it different, etc. Hell, even STS9 does this. Phish always did. The Grateful Dead did it early on. I’m happy to see the band take advantage of this market. I mean, who doesn’t like a mellow acoustic show every once in a while?

Here’s a few mp3’s from their December 30, 2006 show opening up for Umphrey’s McGee right here in Chicago. I have to admit that I wish I was in attendance for this after reading the Hidden Track review from the show, but it just wasn’t in the cards. That’s unfortunate, too — I saw them at Ravinia Park back in late summer 2006, and while the show was good and all, the venue wasn’t really the ideal location to see them perform and watch them jam away.

Tour dates after the jump.

  1. Agreed, Scott. Looking at that lineup again more closely this morning, I thought — “s***, maybe I should have chosen that as my vacation…” Maui works, too.

But yeah, Los Lobos needs to continue to book these spots — there’s a lot of people that deserve to see them in action while they still got their chops left…

  3. Yeah I bet Maui works too. I have a bunch of family in South Florida so I get to kill a couple of birds with one stone, or vacation in this case.

I wonder if the Langerado gig will be acoustic?

  5. I saw Los Lobos last night at the Keswick in Glenside, PA. I so looked forward to finally getting to hear them play live. It was a huge disappointment. The band was awesome, but the sound mix in the theater was horrendous. Strange, because we found out that the band uses their own sound guys. The bass (from any instrument) was pumped so loud it distorted and drowned out the other instruments — especially during the acoustic sets. The wonderful sound of the band you experience on recordings was totally butchered last night. We even moved to other seats, but it didn’t help. They are fantastic musicians and performers. Sad. (Los Lobos was preceeded by Taj Mahal whose sound mix was excellent.)
