As Lady Gaga prepares to take the stage in Sweden, the local synth scene offers a striking musical tribute. Swedish duo Red Cell are set to release a reimagined version of Gaga’s “Disease,” blending icy electronics with Nordic melancholy and raw emotion.

According to a press release from Red Cell’s management, the cover arrives October 3, just days before Gaga’s concert.

Red Cell have built a reputation for their uncompromising covers of unexpected songs like Ace of Base’s “All That She Wants”. With “Disease”, they now take on one of the world’s biggest pop icons. The result is an icy, synth-driven interpretation where inspiration from both Lady Gaga’s original and acoustic piano versions meets Nordic melancholy and frontman Jimmy’s intense vocals.

– “We totally fell in love with the quirky vibe and harmonies in Gaga’s version that reminded us or Nirvana or grunge somehow. We knew we wanted to do our take on it. Romantic, dark, and haunting.“, says Red Cell.

The single’s artwork is created by American artist Alex Eckman-Lawn, known for his surreal and intricately detailed collages.

As Lady Gaga’s Sweden show approaches, Red Cell’s haunting reinterpretation of “Disease” offers fans a stark, synth-laced alternative to the pop original. With its chilling textures and emotional depth, the cover stands as both tribute and transformation. Fans of Gaga, Red Cell, and the darker edges of synth-pop won’t want to miss this release—available October 3.
