Justin and I may agree to disagree regarding the dubstep jams that he likes or the guitar-driven Steve Kimock funkiness that I like, but we definitely see eye-to-eye on the Barr Brothers. And our buddy Phortin can’t say enough, actually….
It’s fair to say that we here at LMB are big fans with each of us recently catching their live show and coming away totally digging their sound. And during their live performance of “Deacon’s Son,” I compared the song’s sound to Tinariwen, saying, “At Rockwood for Barr Brothers. Brad just laid down an incendiary guitar solo. Instrumentals sound a bit like Tinariwen. Desert blues-ish.” I still think that comparison is pretty accurate, but I’ll ask you to decide for yourself by checking out this killer video that The Wild Honey Pie just posted:

Love the “flashlight lighting.” If you do too, then I’d also recommend checking out their other video for “Cloud (for Llasa).” Oh, and they’ve also got both tracks up for free download, if you’d prefer the audio.
The Barr Brothers are currently on tour through mid-December and come highly recommended.
By the way, I never got a chance to formally post my photos from that show, so if you’re at all interested, you can check out the full set on flickr.
