Steve Albini Wins World Series of Poker Gold Bracelet

Congratulations is due for veteran producer Steve Albini, the man behind Shellac and Big Black, who just won big during a World Series of Poker match against 300 players.

Woah. Nice. What did he win?

It was his first World Series of Poker gold bracelet (via 2018 WSOP’s Event #31, $1,500 Seven Card Stud) and his victory is allowing him to walk home with $105,629.

Phew, he needs money for the studio!

Albini, 55, a recording engineer from Chicago, pulled off an unusual double at the final table. Albini busted six-time bracelet winner Chris Ferguson in fourth, then outlasted another six-time bracelet winner, Jeff Lisandro, to seal the victory.

Albini’s career-best payday more than doubled his previous lifetime WSOP earnings of $58,599, collected in five previous cashes.

He went on to say that he owes “an enormous debt of gratitude to my wife, Heather” and that they are in the middle of “a lot of complicated stuff going on at home and she was gracious enough to say it would be okay if I came out here for this. I really appreciate her indulging me in my… hobby.”

Albini had just returned from a tour with Shellac and fit-in the WSOP trip around his music schedule. Suddenly I see new revenue streams available to other musicians…
