It was a beautiful Saturday in spring and Dopapod was in CT!
Albany-born Timbre Coup was on stage as I waltzed (literally, I danced) into The Main Pub in Manchester, CT. Comprised of four strapping young lads who (according to their Facebook page) owe it all to “peanut butter and jellies, raging dance floors, barbecue chips, Lionel Richie & old greg” this quartet classifies themselves as a “progressive rock band.” I hadn’t seen them perform since snoe.down 2011 and since then they have really grown into themselves.
Between the four members of the group, there were three vocalists, three guitarists, two bassists, one drummer and one sauerkraut sandwich-player. Yup, they are multi-talented and very quirky! In fact, at one point, Dan (Gerken) and Ben (Pickering) swapped instruments and spots on stage as they closed out their set.
During the break between acts, it seemed clear (to me, at least) that Dopapod came with their own soundtrack. With some solid iPod jams like Talking Heads “Crosseyed and Painless,” The Flaming Lips “Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Part 1” and Rubblebucket’s “Breatherz (Young as Clouds)” off of their latest release Omega La La. Luke Stanton, Dopapod’s sound and lighting guy, was setting the scene. People were starting to fill in the open spaces of the bar. The boys individually stepped on stage to get their instruments tuned and in place.
On this particular evening, we were celebrating not only amazing music but drummer N-E-A-L’s birthday! And it was a pleasure for me to have a clear shot of him as he is not always visible at the shows I am able to make it to. Cheers to you, NEAL!!
It was just a month ago that I reported on how amazing Dopapod is, so I will let this review be more of a visual pleasure. I will say, throughout this two set show, the group wooed the crowd in usual “Dopapod fashion”; with intesity and much enthusiasm. Till we meet again, boys…!
