Our friend Jim Brock caught the recent Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe and Brandon “Taz” Niederauer show at Lodge Room in Los Angeles and brought back this gallery for us to enjoy. Scroll down to see his shots from the show. —Editor
Loved the Lodge Room. Kinda of a small Teragram. Former Elk’s Lodge. Solid bookings, a bit of a schlep to get to, but Highland Park is hopping so it was worth it.
Brandon “Taz” Niederauer opened up the show and keeps building an audience without a major release that I am aware of. It’s hard not to immediately think that his greatness is continually on the rise, no major surprise for anyone who has caught this now 16-year old who’s been playing with the likes Warren Haynes while barely in his teens. And he has the pipes to go with his burn-a-hole-in-anything D’Angelico chops. While his set was only 45 minutes and he sat in with the headliner later who went generously up to midnight, they still didn’t cover everything on their written setlist.
As for Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, the band is a churning urn of burning soul jam funk and keeps it coming every time I see them. I had a blast shooting them.
Just another Thursday night in Highland Park and a helluva back-to-back for me with Trey Anastasio Band the following night at The Wiltern.
