Phish played their fifth night of The Baker’s Dozen run delivering on the theme of “powdered”, which really stretched itself to show why the band could open with a Fleet Foxes cover (sung acapella). For those that didn’t know until they played it, the song was “White Winter Hymnal”… powder… get it?! And yet we didn’t get any more “winter-y” covers, but the band did bring back their epic Prince cover, “1999” which famously opened their New Year’s Eve 1998-99 show. And for the encore, the band played “Powderfinger” by Neil Young, perfectly nailing the theme and satisfying all those fans that dug around and predicted that cover sometime earlier in the day.
