As I’ve mentioned before, the country is laden with some incredible street festivals and neighborhood parties. Of all the wonderful cities in the U S of A, Chicago may hold the belt for the range and number of its neighborhood parties. Perhaps the best of these is the annual Wicker Park Fest, which this year features some very nice electronic acts and a number of good indie bands.
The festival takes place over two days (July 26-27) on the border between the Wicker Park and Bucktown neighborhoods. These stylish and growing neighborhoods at the heart of Chicago’s art scene — or, at least, once were the heart — will play good hosts to the numerous bands and people who flock to the festival. The best part about the fest is that a five-dollar “recommended” donation — that’s polite for mandatory — is the only cost, unless you plan on taking in the food and drink of these two Chicago locales. Follow the jump for the entire lineup…
The music is nicely split between electronic and indie, as are the stages. With the South Stage featuring the untz on Saturday and a bit of a mix on Sunday, the North Stage is the split with the focus on indie acts both days. Highlights of the lineup are Prefuse 73, Future Rock, Daedelus, and Dark Party (feat. Eliot Lipp & Leo 123) on Saturday and Apollo Sunshine, Charlie Hunter Trio and Maps & Atlases on Sunday.
A number of Chicago’s finest groups are featured at the festival, which is really great for the local music scene. One of which, Future Rock, will be holding an afterparty of sorts at the Double Door on Saturday night. Along with the Glitch Mob, Future Rock will perform only their second live PA set; this falls under a not to miss. As an added bonus that night, if you find me and mention this article, I’ll buy you a beer.
