Well, I almost missed this one that came to my inbox but I figured it needed to be up there. I’m a fan of public radio. Support it.
WFUV Releases City Folk Live 8
New York, NY– Noncommercial New York City radio station WFUV (90.7 FM, wfuv.org) will release City Folk Live 8, a compilation CD of live performances recorded at the station, during its annual fall membership drive, October 29 to November 6. To coincide with this year’s “The Drive Comes Alive” theme, the station will feature cuts from City Folk Live 8 every hour throughout the week of October 31.
The track listing is very impressive and it looks as though this could get some great support for the radio station. Press release continued below.
Volume eight of the City Folk Live CD series captures exclusive in-studio performances by old and new-school New York artists like Patti Smith, David Johansen, Moby and Brazilian Girls, while also showcasing WFUV’s trademark eclecticism. “City Folk Live is a reflection of what we do at WFUV year-round. We try to feature great songwriting across genre lines, whether it’s coming from an alt-country band like Son Volt, New Orleans greats The Neville Brothers or an up-and-coming rocker like M. Ward,” said City Folk Live producer and WFUV Music Director Rita Houston. City Folk Live 8 will be available (throughout the membership drive and thereafter) with WFUV membership at www.wfuv.org. (See full track list below).
During the drive WFUV will also offer a special Nonesuch Records-produced CD, Our New Orleans, featuring the music of Dr. John, Randy Newman, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and many others. A portion of each donation to WFUV for this CD will benefit Habitat for Humanity, as part of WFUV’s effort on behalf of hurricane victims.
Fans of Rich Conaty’s “The Big Broadcast” can look forward to receiving The Big Broadcast Collection, an exclusive CD compiled by Conaty of 25 rare classic jazz and pop tunes of the 1920s and ’30s, available with basic membership to WFUV. (Full track list available upon request).
