Power Funk band Turkuaz has just announced the release of twin EPs Afterlife Vol. 1 and Afterlife Vol. 2.
The first volume dropped on Friday with the second expected to arrive sometime this summer. You can stream the first release below.
The EPs carry heaps of brand new material, including two never before heard songs — “Roll Away” and “Mojo Filter” — as well as demos of old favorites like “On The Run.” There’s even proper studio recordings of songs that were previously only played live like “Take it Slow” and “Gogo Mr. Dodo!
The tracks come from Turkuaz recording sessions that took place between 2016-2018, meaning fans might notice a similar vibe to Turkuaz’s fifth studio album, Life in the City which was recorded during those years.
“The process of making the record truly started back when making demos at my apartment,” divulges Turkuaz frontman, Dave Brandwein. “I was between studios and took it as an opportunity to start writing. I put together the demo for ‘On the Run’ one night while sitting in my room, layering parts on synths and guitars. Determined not to use the drum machine sequence I made, we went to a studio to record Mikey [Carubba]’s drums and some percussion from Nate Werth.”
Turkuaz is about to begin touring the United States for the summer, with stops also scheduled for Japan and the Caloundra Music Festival in Australia.
