The month of May is going to be a real treat for those living in or near Los Angeles. The small club, The Mint will be hosting a residency by studio drumming extraordinaire Matt Chamberlain.
Every Wednesday will feature a different lineup stacked with talent. Some know him from his early project Critters Buggin’ which was formed in 1992 along with Skerik and Brad Houser. A little more background on Mr. Chamberlain from his PR rep, “In the early 90’s he was one of Pearl Jam’s first drummers during the time period when Alive came out, left to be in the SNL house band, and since then has toured and/or recorded with artists like Brad Mehldau, Jon Brion, Of Montreal, Bill Frisell, David Bowie, Fionna Apple, Regina Spektor, Peter Gabriel, Morrissey, Kanye West, and more…”
The new project Company 23 is what will be featured on the first Wednesday of the month, then after that, Matt has selected a different lineup for each event. Pre-sale tickets are on sale now through The Mint. The venue is very small, more lounge than club, so don’t delay on picking up tickets or reserving a table if you are as interested as I am. The two shows I’ll be attending will be the last two, May 23rd & May 30th. On May 23rd, LMB favorite, Marco Benevento will be on keys and on May 30th, one of my favorite guitarists of all time, Bill Frisell will be featured. The show on the 30th has me extra excited as it looks to be just Frisell and Matt as a duo. I wouldn’t miss that for anything. Matt and Frisell have collaborated a lot in the past, with their most recent project released as Floratone II.

May 16th:: David Torn (Guitar, Film Composer; long time member of David Bowie’s band)
May 23rd:: Marco Benevento (Keys; Benevento Russo Duo), Sebastian Steinberg (Bass; Soul Coughing, Marc Ribot), and Josh Klinghoffer (Guitar; current member of Red Hot Chili Peppers)
May 30th:: Bill Frisell (Guitar; Legend…)
