The New York-New Jersey-Connecticut tri-state area played host to an incredible array of headliners this weekend — the three Northeastern states featuring some of the best touring performers of the past, the present and the future. I subtly just called Trey “the past” in that sentence…did you catch it, or was I that slick?
The region was abuzz: Trey’s Affirmative Action Funtime Band (now with new drummer) rocked the Chevrolet Theatre in Wallingford, CT, the Disco Biscuits hosted its long-awaited Drum-Off Show at Atlantic City’s Borgata Hotel & Casino and denizens of the Isle of Manhattan were treated to two impressive shows each from Umphrey’s McGee and Tea Leaf Green.
A lucky man, I managed to catch five sets of Tea Leaf Green’s two-night, six-set stand at Coda and Umphrey’s McGee’s two-set, many-encore show at Irving Plaza on Saturday. And as a result of that fact that TLG didn’t exit the stage until well after 3 am on both nights, I can’t open my eyes and my back, legs and feet are in full-scale rebellion. So we’ll have a full report of these shows upon recovery, and that includes an interview with the boys from TLG.
In the meantime, I picked out my three favorite songs from each of the concerts and found some good recent versions to stand in as today nine-part Song of the Day…
