Rolling Stone just posted the latest from the Sharon Jones camp following the news a few months back that she needed to postpone her album release to deal with cancer surgery (gah!). Turns out she’s recovering according to plan (thank god), and the band has let it be known that they’re coming back strong in 2014 with the album now set for January 14th release and a show at the Beacon in NYC the following month. They also put out a brand new video today called “Retreat”; #ironic much?
Now that Jones has recovered from surgery, she and the Dap-Kings will release Give the People What They Want on January 14th, and will also make a triumphant return to the stage on February 6th at New York’s Beacon Theater – the band’s first show in almost a year. “Without a doubt, this album is the greatest thing we’ve ever recorded and I’ve been anxious for the world to hear it,” bassist and bandleader Bosco Mann said in a statement. “Everything will culminate in February at the Beacon.”

It’s all great news to us here at LMB HQ; we’ll definitely be following her road back to health closely. We’d love to see her at Jazz Fest 2014 as healthy and happy as she ever was.
