In an interview with the South African Mail & Guardian, Colin Greenwood drops the news that Radiohead will begin work on a new album (their ninth) this September. This would be the first news regarding a follow-up to 2011’s The King of Limbs unless you count the rumored recordings at Jack White’s Nashville Studios. Greenwood is a CRF ambassador who is on his first visit to South Africa, where the Unicef-funded organization is training children at community radio stations across the country. In an interview with BBC Radio 6, he also says:
“We’re taking some time out whilst people are doing some other stuff, doing their own things, and the plan is to get back together again [at the] end of the summer.”
News spread this morning thanks to the resourceful Radiohead At Ease and is sure to be the talk of the music community. My favorite nugget from the interview is when Colin discusses the album that I credit for showing me the RH light…
“Influences are everywhere – when we make music, we listen to a lot of hip-hop. You wouldn’t think so. When we did The Bends we listened to a lot of Scott Walker, his album Scott 4. You aim for the stars and hit the clouds – that’s good enough.” It’s also fair to say that South Africa will be getting a Radiohead show on their next tour, whenever that shall be.
