Justin Kreutzmann just released a great little home video of the Grateful Dead visiting President Barack Obama at the White House back in 2009. Amazing!
As it went, this was the year the Grateful Dead was touring as a band called The Dead which featured the surviving four members of Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann along with guitar by Warren Haynes and keyboards by Jeff Chimenti. And yep, they’re all in the video acting geeky for two minutes while President Obama talks to them about a desk. It’s rather thrilling.
Check out the video below.
Also of note here is that it was a few years later during the Fare Thee Well performances that Obama proclaimed “Let there be songs to fill the air” and honoring the Grateful Dead for their 50 years as a band.
