Dolphin Francis, has just…*coughs unconvincingly*. Excuse me. DILLON Francis has just announced the dates for his first ever headlining tour to coincide with his highly anticipated forthcoming album Money Sucks, Friends Rule. This album release marks a turning point into what I think will be a new phase of EDM pseudo-stardom for Dolphin *cough*, Dillon Francis.
The LA based producer/DJ just recently signed with mega label Columbia Records after being championed along his rise by Diplo and Mad Decent’s Jeffree Records family. A smart move for Columbia who must have noticed that every track he’s put his hand to recently has turned solid gold. Like his collab with DJ Snake on “Get Low,” and a remix of Daft Punk’s “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.” If anyone can claim credit for his most recent streak of success, however, it is Francis himself.
The guy is marketable as all hell. He is young, charismatic, and the bestest of buds with some of the EDM elites like Zedd, Calvin Harris, DJ Snake, and Skrillex, the latter of whom he has just finished supporting on the Mothership tour. Start following @dillonfrancis on Instagram and tune in for some of the half dozen personalities he has created (someone give this dude a TV show already). Most famous of whom is the deepest of the deep house euro snobs, DJ Hanzel.
Most importantly, the guy is a fantastic producer. His sound is big and room-filling with an attention to thick lead lines and catchy vocal sampling. His sets always have a great mix of everything from moombahton, trap, melbourne bounce, and big room house bangers to ’80s slow jams and has even been known to throw down R. Kelly. You never really can be sure what your in for except a fair amount of hi-jinx and a great dance party.
Bay Area people: catch him at the Mad Decent Block Party in Berkeley on 9/19. Otherwise risk having to wait until December for his headlining show at Oakland’s Fox Theater.
