Dead & Company returned to their summer tour after a few nights off (except for Bobby) at last night’s first of two nights at CU’s Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado, a now regular yearly event for the Grateful Dead boys.
Dead & Company wraps up this summer 2019 tour with Bob Weir, John Mayer, Jeff Chimenti, Oteil Burbridge, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart all seriously cementing themselves as a touring force to be reckoned with, and supposedly Woodstock 50 could still happen and we’re expecting more dates to be announced soon.
As for last night’s show, well, “Cold Rain and Snow” really got in the way after the show started. The band opened with the killer choice of “Not Fade Away” but quickly things had to be put on pause when hail and wild weather hit the Boulder area.

After a solid hour of delay and a ton of wet w00ks hoping they still get to see a show, the CU Boulder team said “the show will go on” and the band was allowed to come back on and pick right back up in “Cold Rain and Snow” to “restart” the first set. The band got most of the way through a nice arc of music before Bob Weir said that the band would be playing straight through for the rest of the evening, so if you’d be waiting on them to take a break, you’ll be waiting all night.
Huge cheers and a happy crowd came to see one of the sets we’ll be taking about for a while, mostly because it was chock full of hits and solid jams and amazing playing.
The encore of “The Weight > U.S. Blues” was a wonderfully hitting Fourth of July with Friends closer vibe to end the evening. The band returns tonight and hopefully they’ll have some better weather out there.

The @deadandcompany in Boulder went from fun rain, to rain delay, to people standing under upturned trashcans in a hailstorm. Deadheads are crafty. pic.twitter.com/c0aYE5BUiJ
