Dead & Company just finished off their show at Citi Field in New York City, and it was a big one. John Mayer came out on stage sporting Jerry Garcia‘s famed Wolf guitar that was recently sold in auction, and suddenly the show really takes on the “Never Miss A Sunday Show” vibe.
Then the opener song was “St. Stephen”. 🤯🎸🌹💀🐺
From there the band continued their Grateful Dead classics with Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart, Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti all playing through a great first set, but the second set is what really floors me on paper.
Opening with “Lady with a Fan > Terrapin” and playing some of my absolute favorites of “Althea,” “Scarlet Begonias” and “Fire on the Mountain” before making way for drums and space. You’ve got to love that they gave Mayer a chance to use Wolf to bring a blistering solo to “Morning Dew” before they closed the show with “Brokedown Palace.”
