Dead and Company just finished up their first night at the Playing in the Sand 2019 destination festival. The group formed around the original Grateful Dead members of Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann was once again joined by John Mayer, Jeff Chimenti and Oteil Burbridge for the start of three unique nights of shows in Mexico at the Riviera Maya.
PLAYING IN THE SAND SETLISTS: NIGHT TWO | NIGHT THREE
The first night of the run featured a super creative first set highlighted by the “New Speedway Boogie > Bird Song > New Speedway Boogie” combo to close out the first set (plus one of our faves, “Mr. Charlie”). The second set featured a “China Cat Sunflower” that weaved in “Cumberland Blues” before heading into “I Know You Rider”. A ferocious “Terrapin Station” followed and was as epic as ever before moving into the “Drums/Space” segment of the show which featured Oteil jamming on pots and pan with the Rhythm Devils, too. A late “Help On the Way > Slipknot > Franklin’s Tower” closed the second set on a big high note. The band encored with the beautiful classic “Ripple” before sending everyone off to the hotel and back into the night to celebrate.
As for the rest of the year, they’ve already announced a busy one with Bob Weir taking the Wolf Bros out on the road again soon and the band gearing up for a full summer tour after that.
Don’t forget that you can watch the run from the couch as the entire Playing in the Sand event will be webcast live via Nugs.tv. You can head over there to order live (or replay-able) video from the event.

I didn’t get to start watching #playinginthesand until FOTD, but from everything I’ve heard, the boys are in a zone that’s nice and chill. Just what I need. Smooth an$ relaxed. They seem to be having fun. Speedway Boogie to Birdsong was seamless. #deadandcompany
