Is Michael Jackson’s Estate Working on a Broadway Play?

Any red-blooded music fan could have taken a guess and put it out there on Twitter that Michael Jackson deserves his own Broadway play, but that’s still a far cry from seeing some news that this is actually going to happen.

Today we got some news confirming what’s up.

Is this a real thing?

The answer is YES!

The estate of Michael Jackson has announced they’ll be developing a hoping-for-Broadway play set for release sometime in 2020.

The musical, reflecting Jackson’s stature, features an unusually acclaimed creative team. The book is to be written by Lynn Nottage, a playwright who has won two Pulitzers, for “Ruined” and “Sweat.” And the show is to be directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon, the artistic associate of the Royal Ballet in London, who won a Tony Award for “An American in Paris.”

No doubt following the runaway success of Hamilton and now Tina Fey‘s Mean Girls, it’s a new sorta gold rush to bring popular stories to the stage for American audiences to see as they tour New York City.

Just like his impersonators in Times Square, the King of Pop definitely deserves his own place for the rest of time.

We’ll have more on this as the story develops.
