John Van Deusen Announces New Single “Only Living If I’m Abiding” Featuring Tyson Motsenbocker

John Van Deusen is set to introduce a new chapter of his genre-spanning songwriting with the upcoming release of “Only Living If I’m Abiding,” a vibrant collaboration with Tyson Motsenbocker. The indie-rock track blends heartfelt faith, soaring melodies and the creative chemistry of two longtime friends – as Van Deusen prepares to release his ambitious new album. The single delivers an anthemic burst of bright guitars, driving rhythms and soaring harmonies while celebrating the power of faith and connection.
A press release from John Van Deusen’s team announced that “Only Living If I’m Abiding” will be available August 7 on all streaming platforms.
Ahead of the single’s release, Van Deusen hosted a sold-out album listening party at Anotherland’s private Nashville studio, where he previewed songs on the album, including a few that he performed live.
An energetic burst of indie rock built on bright guitars, driving rhythms, and soaring harmonies, “Only Living If I’m Abiding” is one of the album’s most joyful and anthemic moments. Anchored by the chorus, “I’m only living if I’m abiding / I’d be a liar to deny / The power of Your presence in my life,” the song transforms a simple declaration of faith into a communal singalong, celebrating the life found through remaining rooted in God’s presence. The track also highlights Van Deusen’s longtime friendship with Tyson Motsenbocker, who together play in Telephone Friends.
The collaborative new track arrives as the fifth and final single leading to the August 28 album release, following “In All, Sustain All” (feat. Salvation Choir), “Just Because You Wanted Us” (feat. Jon Guerra, “Joyful Noise” (feat. Citizens)”, and “No One Else But You” (feat. Taylor Armstrong). Collaborators on the broader project include Josh Farro (Paramore), Scott Mills (Colony House), David Leonard (All Sons & Daughters), and Ethan Hulse, with featured artists Chris Renzema, and Sandra McCracken also appearing.
Self-produced by Van Deusen with co-production from Nathan Cimino (Cold War Kids / Sia / Sublime), the album was recorded with the same DIY ethos that has shaped every chapter of his career: from his Tooth & Nail Records tenure and The Lonely Forest’s performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to his work in Telephone Friends.
