Ad Ops Nerd. Living that San Diego life. Chicago born and raised.
Watch video of Gorillaz and Madonna kicking off the Grammys. https://vimeo.com/204605983 I didn't actually watch the Grammys, and I'm so glad that I didn't have to weed through all the crap to find the real gems to watch...
How's everybody doing this Monday? If you're in NYC or anywhere on the East coast, I definitely am not feeling your pain. Sorry about that two feet of snow in Central Park... If you're not buried and snow and you live in Chicago, come join me tonight at the Empty Bottle for Del Rey and Mice Parade. ...
Do you remember when Rolling Stone told us this about Scott Stapp? After his wedding in February, Stapp will launch his first dry tour. (A sobriety coach will travel with him.) Apparently, his dry tour just isn't starting off as planned... From TMZ.com... Police sources tell TMZ that Stapp tried to board a plane yesterday but was allegedly so drunk that airline personnel...
You might have seen it elsewhere, but just recently, I've discovered a very cool little site dedicated to selling concert posters--The Poster List. I've been putting together a list of what I want to buy, and I've got my eyes on the Broken Social Scene and the New Deal posters. All posters are under $10 (at least for now) and shipping...

Reflections from the Dave Matthews Band Caribbean Cruise Getaway Disastrous isn’t the best adjective, but it’s the first one that comes to mind. moe. Disco Biscuits, Please... The highlight for me was definitely the Disco Biscuits opening set...
Tea Leaf Green The Lymbyc Systym February 4, 2006 Abbey Pub, Chicago, IL For anyone that's followed this blog for the past few months, you'd know that there's a lot of talk about Tea Leaf Green these days. The quartet from San Francisco, anchored most strongly on Trevor Garrod's keyplaying and songwriting, is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with. While I've...
Download a gem of a White Stripes performance from The Big O. (via BO) Jambands.com published their 2005 Year in Review: Encore the other day. Dave Vann: Name one band you discovered (or rediscovered) in the past year? The Secret Machines The Christian Science Monitor explains the rise of the "concert" movie theater experience. "I've never been to one of...
Last night, someone called me Trey, I shook David Pransky's (Toubab Krewe) hand, I got down to STS9, and I took this photo. More to come...
It's damn-near immediate that the lowest price tier for Bonnaroo 2006 tickets is already sold-out. I had a question about this from a reader, specifically, the question of how fast the festival sells out of its lowest price tickets. My response was simply, "even if you're 51% sure that you're going, you should buy tickets immediately..." I hope that helped in, because...
They have just announced that Les Claypool and Oysterhead have been added to the Bonnaroo 2006 lineup. Oysterhead hasn't done anything since 2001 and this is just the supergroup reunion that I've been waiting for. Trey Anastasio, Les Claypool, and Stewart Copeland--it's my supergroup. All of a sudden, I really, really want to go to this festival.
Just so everyone knows, Oysterhead is rumored to be getting back together to play Bonnaroo 2006. Trey Anastasio, Les Claypool, and Stewart Copeland. Oysterhead. Yes. I'm serious. Download Oysterhead 11/17/01 (Asheville, NC) at nugs.net. More on this when we get more... UPDATE (5pm): Rumor confirmed!
Maybe I'm getting too ahead of myself... I probably should be taking a nap to get ready for the show tonight, and instead I'm all worried about next week... And for that week ahead, I'm planning more than I'm sure to follow-through with...(why the hell do I always do that?) I'm am pretty confident of the following, though... Monday: Mice Parade, Del...
I'm listening to The Wood Brothers live on WXPN's World Cafe right now. NPR is streaming the in-studio performance right now, but they say they'll have the archive posted later today.
Tonight, I'm headed out to see STS9 w/ opener Toubab Krewe at the House of Blues in Chicago. I'm entirely too psyched for words, as I'm loving just about every second of Toubab Krewe's music and I've always been a STS9 fan. Enjoy some tracks today while you're at work. This show is going to rage. STS9 - Peoples...
Ear Farm examines My Morning Jacket's Dondante. When I first heard this track, I immediately thought, "Wow, what a kickass way to end an album..." For all your bluegrass hipsters that aren't hitting Coachella, there's always MerleFest in NC on the same weekend. Not that anyone would actually choose between these festival considering their geography (CA vs. NC), but there's some solid...
Add Built to Spill to my list of bands I need to check out during 2006. They just announced that they're putting the final touches on their new album, You In Reverse, and they're hitting the road for an expansive tour with multiple-night stops in a lot of the major outlets across the country. Note to other bands: tour like...
Umphrey's McGee and the Disco Biscuits have been added to Bonnaroo 2006. It looks like they're squeezing them into one tent for a special late-night show. SWEET. WAIT A SECOND... Didn't I just read that Tea Leaf Green was supposedly denied a spot at Bonnaroo for the following reason... ...our good friends at Superfly have a policy to try and not have...
Why Won't We Let the Grateful Dead Just Die? That starts to bug me, actually. I know they were the force that brought this whole scene together in the first place, it just seems that the longer we friggin' sit here and play all Dead covers, the longer it's going to take for the scene to move forward, move on,...
2006 Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival Sep. 2-4, 2006 Seattle, WA (various) There wasn't a whole lot written about this festival last year, even considering that it's had great lineups in the past. We'll try and keep you updated on this one, and we'll see who gets added as the early Fall dates approach... Bumbershoot, Seattle's Music & Arts Festival, will...
Headline of the week: Love Puts 'Gnarly' Drug Problem Behind Her Note to self: start using gnarly as an adjective on the blog (I always use it verbally)... On the star-studded tribute to James Taylor... Taylor's brother, Livingston, sang backup on "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)" while Taylor's twin 4-year-old sons, Rufus and Henry, jumped up...
moe. Disco Biscuits February 3, 2006 Aragon Ballroom Chicago, IL We all know how exciting weekend concerts can be, especially for all working-class professionals that put in 40 hours a week. All the rest of us bums, well, Friday night is still exciting because that means that your friends can play. There’s just nothing better (if you have the energy) than blowing...

From Billboard.com... Bruce says he, guitarist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker will set up camp in select cities for multiple dates, just as they did last year. It gets...
Mucho gusto to Dave Chappelle's Block Party and Kellogg's Online Shop for advertising on Live Music Blog. If you're interested in doing the same, sign up through Blogads or contact me. I won't bite. Hard.
Just this past weekend, Dave Matthews and Friends hosted their first ever cruise festival, much in the same vein as Jam Cruise. It was supposed to be very innovative, especially considering how they divided the festival into two, different cruise ships (instead of just one) to wisk concert-goers off to some hidden island (which was actually just Atlantis...
KyndMusic and the 101 Report redesign. I likey. The story of Sir Joe Russo... Tea Leaf Green has finalized most of March, so go catch them in a small club while you can. On today's podcast, I'm featuring my personal highlights from the moe. / Disco Biscuits show I saw last Friday night (my review to follow). I had a blast at the show even though the sound was terrible, and these sources do their best to capture the sound in all of its boomy glory. Jamcast #033 - Bisco/moe. in Chicago Subscribe to Live...
We got another comment on the Green Apple Music Festival the other day that I plugged here; basically, there are some strong rumors pointing at the potential for some seriously great bands signing on to play this festival... For all the blogging I do about music and music festivals, you'd think I'd have the decency to write about some of...
I don't have too much to share this morning. Nothing's really jumping out at me from my feedreader, so I'll update this as I find other stuff that comes my way. Open Thread: See any good shows this weekend? Listening to anything cool right now? Excited for my next podcast (due out later today)? Let's...

There's just something so weird to me about being able to catch great live music every single day of the week. It's actually more overwhelming than I'd care to admit, especially considering that something as great as live music should never be anything that overwhelmes anyone with anything but positive emotions. Makes sense? Last Wednesday night, my crew...
Happy Super Bowl Sunday Ya'll ! ! ! ! I'm moving quite slow this morning trying to take in the excellent Tea Leaf Green show I saw last night at the Abbey. I'm a TLG first-timer, and I've been really waiting for a good opportunity to take in their live show and all of its hyped-up glory. I'm glad I...

Sun (2/5): Super Bowl after party: Eminem, Diddy on Jimmy Kimmel !!! Mon (2/6): North Mississippi Allstars on Last Call Tue (2/7): not much Wed (2/8): Sigur Ros on Conan,...
Since I've started putting a lot more time into this site, you may have noticed that I'm publishing more articles. Hopefully, I've still made it easy for you to keep up with the content as it's flying from my keyboard, but I could understand that it might not be easy for those newer to the blog world... Therefore, I'm...
One of the benefits of publishing a music blog is that you're forced to be aware of what's going on in the world, musically speaking of course. I love it. This weekend (and the next month really), I'll be seeing plenty of live music to satisfy my craving. Way too many bands to list are making stops in...
Death Cab for Cutie and Franz Ferdinand announced their U.S. tour yesterday. EARVOLUTION has a Broken Social Scene review from their first night in NYC. In Dave Chappelle news, he's on Oprah today, most likely plugging his new concert movie, Dave Chappelle's Block Party. The movie is directed by Michael Gondry, the genius behind so many music videos already. ...
If you were browsing around some of the popular jamband message boards yesterday, you might have seen something similar to the fake Coachella lineups that were floating around the past month or so: a fake Green Apple Music Festival lineup, complete with a God Street Wine reuinion and the SerialPod's NYC debut to boot. We'll see how much of...
I've updated the High Sierra Music Festival lineup with some hefty additions to the lineup, including Disco Biscuits, My Morning Jacket, and more... (thanks JamBase)
From Billboard.com... Mayers responds, "We don't want to dismiss our core in any way, but we also think it's great to bring all these different types of music together. As great as Widespread Panic has been to us and has been a really big part of what we've done, we can't have Widespread Panic every single year."

Update: the lineup has been announced. It looks like this is going to be the summer of Smashing Pumpkin reuinion rumors, so I can't wait to see which one actually gets confirmed first. First Coachella, and now yet again, the Smashing Pumpkins are rumored as headliners for Lollapalooza 2006. From Billboard.com... The lineup for the event won't be announced for weeks, but...

Well, this Bonnaroo announcement flew into my inbox and I had to run with it. I was frantically trying to be the first to post even though it...

If you've followed Umphrey's McGee as closely as I have in the past couple years, you know that they're continuing to push forward, innovate and inproGisate like the best jamband juggernauts of years past. With news that they're pushing out a new album early spring (and with one very cool looking cover), here's to 2006 as another great year for...

In case you don't know, The Raconteurs is the new group with Brendan Benson and Jack White, and they've teamed up with a rhythm section (Jack Lawrence (bass) and Patrick Keeler (drums)) that...
On Saturday night, I ventured out in the Chicago wilderness to catch Dialogue, The Felix Culpa, Hanalei and Wax on Radio play at the Metro. A newly smoke-free venue, $6 gin and tonics, and emo-based indie rock = a fun time had by all. I didn't actually stay the entire time so I didn't catch Wax on Radio, which...
