Grimes Shares ‘ACCELERANDO,’ First Lead Single From ‘PSYOPERA’

Grimes has returned with “ACCELERANDO,” the first lead single from her upcoming album PSYOPERA. The project will mark her first album in six years and begin a new phase of releases after a long stretch away from a traditional album cycle. The single arrives with a music video directed by Cho Giseok and creatively directed by Grimes.

In a press release, Grimes’ team announced that “ACCELERANDO” is out now and will lead into PSYOPERA, with more details about the album expected later this month. The song draws on themes of technological acceleration, war and the social changes Grimes says she observed during her years away from pop music.

“ACCELERANDO” is framed as an anti-war song built around electronic dance production, with Grimes drawing on her experiences around Silicon Valley and her concerns about emerging technologies.

The video features Grimes hovering over battlefield imagery, with crosses appearing behind her and one scene showing her as a mother wrapped in chains.

From the AI debate to immoral wars to a bad ex to looksmaxers to the importance of religion, PSYOPERA will cover everything Grimes witnessed as a woman of history during her hiatus from pop music.
