Vegoose Cancels Plans for 2008

In another sign (among many others) that the festival market in the US is quite oversaturated for 2008, the Vegoose Music Festival, the annual Halloween themed and timed event in Las Vegas, has announced that they will not be returning this year (via brooklynvegan).
Make other plans for Halloween in Las Vegas: The annual Vegoose Music Festival will not be presented this year. Not at the end of October or any other time.
That’s a decent blow to the scene overall, if you ask me. This was a solid destination event that really seemed to have everything that should draw music festival patrons in, except maybe the lineup last year to really support traveling to the festival. Still, it’s sad to see Superfly and A.C. Entertainment shutting down an event. Here’s to hoping they’re just going to take that energy and reinvest it in another event — hopefully not a bigger Bonnaroo — and we’ll hope to hear more from that camp soon when they give us an official answer on why the decision was made to forgo the festival plans for 2008. For now, all we have is the guy in charge of the arena saying that it isn’t happening there and that he doesn’t know what the promoters want to do yet. Bummer.
Issues with Vegoose 2008 may go beyond the promoters and may have more to do with local residents and noise levels coming from the open air festival. Sam Boyd Stadium used to be considered to be in kind of a rural area. Ideally a great place for an outdoor veneue, but not anymore. During last years festival local police were inandated with so many noise complaints, they didn’t know what to do. I can tell you that I live in close proximity to Sam Boyd Stadium, and that local tax payers have put the screws to local government concerning Vegoose or future open air festivals to be held at that veneue. Take a look around if you attended the event in the beginning compaired to last year. Sam Boyd Stadium is now in the middle of a residential area where “noise ordinances” apply. Good luck finding another location in the future, because it won’t be happening here.
