Giveaway: Phish ‘Colorado ’88’

Thanks again to MusicToday, I’ve got yet another giveaway…today.
Phish has become quite an archival release machine in the past few years since the Coventry goodbye/debacle.
Colorado ’88 is the newest release from the archives and it chronicles Phish’s first trip out West. The band bummed around Colorado for a week or so and played some long, wildly epic (on paper) shows — and why let that archive go untapped. The original tapes were mixed and put together as the Dry Goods only release with plenty of other goodies thrown in for the fans.

“We’re pleased to announce the latest Dry Goods only release, Colorado ’88, is now
available for pre-orderout with Halloween as the release date. This three-CD set, which will not be available in stores, was compiled from Phish’s seminal tour of the Rocky Mountain State. Mastered from the original analog cassette tapes, Colorado ’88 contains recordings of songs that, until now, have not been widely traded or heard with such clarity. Several of the tracks found in the collection have never before appeared on an official Phish release.We are also offering special packages featuring the Colorado ’88 CD and exclusive retro Phish logo shirts; a throwback to the original Phish shirts the band sold (and occasionally wore
) in 1988. These are available on a 100% cotton Teal shirt for the men and a poly-cotton blend on orchid for women.”

I am going to win this time! I am going to wear the T to all the live shows I am going to attend within the next couple of weeks and explain to my fellow Dutchmen that the greatest nineties jam band actually started out in the eighties. I am going to pay a visit to all the record stores in my hometown and give them a really hard time about not stocking any Phish.
O, and bring on the Amsterdam 1996/1997 box set.

Way back up to my post around #10, the answer to my question by “cheater” was incorrect. Stickney did promise them two weeks of shows (or actually I believe it was a full month) but he wasn’t ultimately the reason they were offered those two weeks to begin with. The only reason he agreed to have them play at his bar was because of this one person. Hint: It relates to Gordo.

I love the old Phish shows from the 80’s. They sounded fresh and raw. As the years when on not only did the music they created go from being extreamly creative and expirimental to more subdued (I still love there later work but it’s obviously very different)but when they played the old stuff it became more subdued. Things became too polished. I’m not sure if I’m thrilled with all these new releases, seems a little like there scroungin for money but if win one I’ll be happy just the same.

I started seeing Phish in 91, and as a CC student I heard these shows on tape a lot. Just missed the famous CC Halloween shows though. Would be great to have the discs. Have a nice day hippies.
