Never thought I’d write this sentence in a million years: Phish covered Tay Zonday tonight.
Uhhhhh….LOL.
Phish fans were tossing this idea around when the band announced the donut theme of their sixth night at Madison Square Garden as part of their Baker’s Dozen run: DOUBLE CHOCOLATE. I thought the band could take this either way — literal or figurative — but they went straight ahead with opening the show with one of the silliest tunes they’ve ever done, “Chocolate Rain” by a relatively obscure meme-able dude named Tay Zonday. If you were on the internet in 2007, you’ve definitely seen this video.
“Chocolate Rain” is a song by American musician Tay Zonday. It quickly went viral after the music video for the song was uploaded to YouTube on April 22, 2007, and has since been viewed more than 114 million times. “Chocolate Rain” was ranked as the hottest viral video of summer 2007 by CTV and was awarded the 2008 YouTube Award in the category “Music” [Wikipedia]
Here’s the original…
And now, low and behold, you have a version from none other than those four lovable nerds from Vermont that call themselves Phish.
They even adopted the mannerisms…
😂😂😂
