Now that’s a world tour!!!
Disco-punk groovers, !!! (aka Chk Chk Chk), have expanded their 2007 touring schedule. They are charting a massive worldwide tour playing big cities and summer festivals, including Lollapalooza.
!!! is yet another ‘disco-punk’ style band I’ve been getting into lately (the other? LCD Soundsystem). Their latest studio album, Myth Takes, came out in March on Warp records, and has been getting a ton of play by yours truly (especially during my workouts). In my opinion, this album is much better than their 2004 effort, Louden up Now. It features a tighter sound and some seriously jam-heavy grooves. You can check out a few tracks from Myth Takes at their website, which has definitely gotten a killer makeover since I last visited. They’ve got a nifty little flash player (for which I’d recommend the Talking Heads-style track: “Break in Case of Anything”), and all sorts of crazy moving images that share a similar vibe to the Myth Takes cover art.
Now, after listening to this band on and off for a few months, I can imagine them being incredible in the live setting. This is something I keep reading about the band whenever I see a review, a write-up, etc…(it’s also highlighted in the bio section of their website). So, I am really excited to check them out when they swing through Chicago in May. However, the small bit of live material we’ve heard here at LMB makes us wonder if their sound really translates all that well at their concerts. It’s hard to imagine how they wouldn’t put on an amazing live show, but sometimes you just gotta let your ears decide…
(these tracks are courtesy of Bradley’s Almanac and its coverage of Touch & Go’s 25th Anniversary on 9/8/06)
I really want to blame the poor sound quality of these recordings, but the vocals are pretty rough. I guess I’ll just have to wait to check them out for myself.
