Last night at Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, CA, Mike Gordon decided to “relax” on his off day from Phish tour and take part in Phil Lesh’s Jerry Day Celebration (yesterday would have been Jerry Garcia’s 71st Birthday). Mike joined Phil and his band for a version of “Tennessee Jed” and “He’s Gone”. The house party took place on the backyard patio under the newly reworked arbor and featured Neal Casal (“Black Muddy River”) and Stu Allen (“Standing On The Moon”) as well. Phil and his band ended the show with an acoustic fireside performance of “Brokedown Palace” and “We Bid You Goodnight.”
Here’s video of Mike Gordon joining for “Tennessee Jed” (video via @darrenmason)
Here’s a photo from the end of the show (sans Cactus):
Phish had an off-day in the Bay Area yesterday before kicking off a three-night stand in San Francisco at Bill Graham’s Civic Auditorium. We had originally heard rumors that perhaps the whole band would be joining the Jerry Day Celebration but only Cactus was able to sneak away from the tour busses for some jamming with Phil. Maybe Phil will return the favor one of the nights the band is in town and we’ll get a replay of the 9/17/99 Chula Vista show where Phil joined the band on third trampoline during “You Enjoy Myself.”
