Tortoise has put out a new mp3 from their upcoming album, Beacons of Ancestership, and Stereogum has the exclusive first-listen from the album. I’m definitely not hearing anything familiar in this track — and yet it sounds so much like Tortoise it really couldn’t be anybody else. I’m hoping to discover some of the tracks on the album that I may have heard live back when I saw them in Chicago a few times over the past couple years. They were definitely debuting and road-testing some of this material, which always makes me excited to hear an album to see how the live stuff converts to a studio package.
Sample the track below and let me know what you think. This band continues to make music that will challenge their audience even further, which is exactly what we, the heady audience, demands.
