Athens, GA rock band Futurebirds have a tasty new record called Baba Yaga coming to earholes everywhere on April 16th. The band’s 2nd LP will go out on Fat Possum / VL4L and “Virginia Slims” is the first single from the markedly beautiful and varied thirteen song collection. Guitarist/Vocalist and world-renowned skateboarder Carter King remarked about the video, saying it “is about being that age where you’re still a kid but overcome with that itch to get out, to be older. You get your kicks however you can and you have to be creative at that age too. You can’t just go to the liquor store with a $20 bill. Fireworks are a universal vice for the middle schooler in everybody, not to mention, they look really sweet in slow motion.” Radical. Spot on.

Futurebirds have some big dates planned this Spring including a run of shows with Band of Horses, an appearance at Mountain Jam and a stop at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival (where the band also appeared in 2011). Check out all their tour dates here.
As a nice free kicker to whet your appetite before LP2 is out, Futurebirds recently released Exhume, a free 10-song collection of tracks from previous albums, as well as a few extras. Download Exhume for free here.
As for Baba Yaga, expect some damn fine ghoulish and broody southern gothic rock – the likes of which you haven’t heard before.
