On Friday night, I went to see the Jake Cinniger / Brendan Bayliss Acoustic Christmas Show at the Vic. Getting to see the two front men for Umphrey’s McGee strip down to their acoustic side while a crowd of rowdy fans shouts requests is definitely my idea of a good time — this was my third year in a row in attendance…
The night usually serves as a simple fund raising event and this year’s was no exception. The ticket price is always a little high but it’s always worth it considering the show you’re seeing is considered unique for Umphrey’s McGee. I mean, anyone can attest to the fact that the band is nowhere near acoustic so it’s always been interesting to me to see how they take their epicness down to acousticness.
Quite interesting to consider the size of the venues, too — Schubas (2004), then Park West (2005), then the Vic (2006) — I really hope they don’t take this show to the Aragon next year.
Show highlights included a fantastic “Bullhead City” — the song that they’re meant to play acoustic — and a killer, killer version of “Bad Poker.” Here’s a random version of the song from the Archive…
Doug went to the show and shared these photos; I didn’t have my camera with me so nothing to share from my view of the stage.
Anyone else go?
