Caught a fantastic show last night at the Metro — The Rapture with openers The Presets — and lived to tell about it…
I managed to drag my wife (and myself) off the couch to the show — a rare occasion for me and Sunday nights — and we arrived during The Presets mid-set. The two members of the band — one focusing on beats and/or live-drumming and one focusing on vox and synth — were entertaining but nothing I’d ever really write home about. Not bad by any means, just not that great…
The Rapture took the stage shortly after the posted start time of 10:15pm, and the crowd went wild with cheers when the band grabbed their instruments. They belted right into “Heaven” from their Echoes release, and again, the crowd just went nuts.
They were definitely playing to a crowd ready to get down, be-it Sunday night or not. I myself was getting down, just not down on the floor with the rest of the tweakers.
The band played all the hits I wanted to hear, including a fantastic two-for with “Whoo! Alright – Yeah…Uh Huh” and “House of Jealous Lovers,” easily the highest energy moment of the night and one that gave me a couple good chills. They played most of the new album, Pieces of the People We Love, and it was really, really good to see this stuff live…
The Rapture come highly recommended. Catch these guys in the small clubs while you can…
