Nick Irving went to Catskill Chill this past weekend and filed this report for us…
This past weekend several thousand fans headed to Camp Minglewood in Hancock NY for the second annual Catskill Chill Music Festival. Despite the fact that most of the surrounding region was in a state of emergency due to flash floods, the shows went on as planned. One of the aspects that sets Catskill Chill apart is that more than half of the attendees and musicians stay in cabins for the weekend. The summer camp atmosphere is one that is certain to cause sell-outs quickly in the future — showers, toilets, running water…oh my!
There is no doubt in my mind that this festival is not only on its way becoming a staple on the summer festival loop, but will probably “blow-up” and may be a hard ticket based on capacity. Another aspect of the festival that stands out is that both the main stage and side stage are both inside of very large pavilions similar to indoor/outdoor hockey rinks and have cement floors. It was a very wet and muddy weekend, but the pavilions saved everything! All said and done, I recommend hitting this one up in years to come…
