Marco Benevento officially kicks off the first leg of his Fall Tour in Rochester, NY tonight. Marco just played Phil Lesh’s intimate club, Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafeal, CA this past Friday the 14th to a sold out crowd, lending itself to more of a party than a full blown show. The evening was a part of my thirtieth birthday celebration and our crew raged it proper after a delicious dinner inside the Terrapin Crossroads Restaurant (Hat Tip: Order the Fried Squash Blossoms w/ ricotta herb stuffing and tomato jam.) Check out the 9/14 recap + upcoming tour dates and a special Tigerface giveaway after the jump.
To the delight of many, Phil Lesh sat in with the Marco Benvento Trio (Reed Mathis on Bass, Andy Borger on drums) for the second song of the evening. A cover of Deerhoof’s “Twin Killers.” The smile that came from Phil Lesh after the “jam” and subsequent hug to Reed Mathis and Marco was worth the price of admission.
Although a shorter show than usual, Marco will certainly let it all hang out on the east coast beginning in Rochester. LMB favorites, The Mike Dillon Band, open the first two weeks with Superhuman Happiness, Woodsman and American Babies getting opening slots towards the end of the tour. We’ve got it on good authority that Marco will be making his way to the West Coast in Early 2013 so be on the lookout.

And I couldn’t resist sharing a special moment at the Marco show on Friday. Towards the end of the night, I was able to snag a photo (taken by @JasonSpang) with Phil Lesh himself as he was leaving. Appropriately enough I was even sporting my ‘tigerface’ High Sierra Music Festival t-shirt! One of the many highlights to an absolutely awesome birthday weekend!
