Upstate New York’s Timbre Coup opened on Sunday afternoon for some of the most popular musicians, including Marco Benevento, the North Mississippi Allstars Duo, and Umphrey’s McGee. The early afternoon NMAS Duo set was particularly impressive, with brothers Cody and Luther Dickinson channeling the great blues heroes of the Mississippi Hill Country under gorgeous skies.
Other Sunday afternoon highlights included a typically strong set from Umphrey’s McGee (including a sit-in with Stanley Jordan for 40’s Theme>Hajimemas***e>40’s Theme) and moe.’s traditional afternoon Kid’s Parade (to the tune of “Bring It Back Home”).
moe.’s final performance of the weekend did not disappoint. Joined by Umphrey’s McGee for a full band switch, the bands covered Pink Floyd’s Time>Breathe. Later in the evening, Rob Derhak led the audience in the annual “Mayor of moe.down” election (with Gold Bond narrowly edging out Shake Weight for the coveted elective office this year, joining such previous moe.down legends as Squirrelly, Gary from Nebraska, and Hodge).
Many in the crowd thought the festival’s musical entertainment was over after the traditional fireworks display, however moe. returned to the stage for what amounted to a third set, with a powerhouse Billy Goat>Meat to close the weekend.
Was it a success? Absolutely. Thanks to moe., their families and crew for putting on a great weekend of great music and friendship. Here’s looking to moe.down 14!
