Last Tuesday night, several hundred of LA’s most fashionable gathered to celebrate the union of art, music and fashion at Project Ethos LA Fashion Week presented by Scion. The event revolved around two fashion shows that featured designers from all over the world. The shows began with a dance piece choreographed by Michael Silas, who is known for his work with Lady Gaga. In addition to runway shows, there was a gallery of local art curated by Midori Liquor. Lab Art, the largest street art gallery in the nation, brought three of their best live artists to “perform”. The night was capped with an energetic performance by LA based Y∆CHT.
Sporting a diverse line-up of designers, the runway shows presented stunning fashion for every possible taste. From delicate, lace evening gowns to tribal print bikinis. From pastel tailored suits to sequin poodle skirts. Every nook and cranny of fashions most current trends were explored, re-invented and turned inside out. Throughout every line presented, we noticed the recurrence of metal accents and unique textures. Judging by mini-skirts and colorful prints we saw last night, the LA fashion scene is already getting ready for the summer season!
Around 12:30, dance-punk phenomenon Y∆CHT came on the stage to wake up the sleepy crowd. The energy that the group brought to the stage was electric, and the crowd responded immediately. The core duo is comprised of musical mastermind Jona Bechtolt and vocalist/cowbell extraordinaire Claire Evans, but they perform with a drummer and bassist as well. Claire Evans captivates and charms the audience with her quirky, IDGAFOS attitude. Chaotic but intensely danceable at the same time, Y∆CHT was the post-midnight pick-me-up that the crowd needed.
Designers showcased included CA by Vitamin A, Alex Vinash, Ermelinda Manos, Marialia, Isabelle Donola NYC, Nativ New York, Tumbler & Tipsy by Michael Kuluva (presented by AIDS Healthcare Foundation & Out of the Closet Thrift Stores), GLAUDI by Johana Hernandez and jewelry by Kristen Dorsey Designs. There was a live hair demonstration by Sebastian Professional featuring their “EvoTech” collection.
