Incidental Animals finished up their three night run at Baltimore’s Soundstage this past Friday night. The jamband super group is comprised of members of ALO, String Cheese Incident and Trey Anastasio Band: Lebo, Steve Adams Dave Brogan, Jen Hartswick and Kyle Hollingsworth anchor the group. Despite only having two shows under their belts when I saw them, Incidental Animals sounded quite comfortable playing together. The band’s song selection was mostly ALO originals in additional to a couple Kyle Hollingsworth songs. And the real treat was the addition of Jen Hartswick’s trumpet and vocals. Her talents we showcased in songs like “Piece of My Heart” made famous by Janis Joplin and “Will it Go Round in Circles” a Trey Anastasio Band staple. The band also threw down great covers of Jimmy Cliff’s “Harder They Come” and an encore of probably one of the slickest versions of the KC and the Sunshine Band’s “Shake Your Booty” you are ever likely to hear which included all the members of The Heavy Pets returning to the stage.
Lebo had mentioned off stage that the Incidental Animals were playing a private wedding the following day. So, I am pretty sure I just saw the best wedding band of all time! Congrats Mikey and Amy!
