Yo La Tengo kicked off their annual Hanukkah run in New York City last night, setting up a residency at the Bowery Ballroom. Previous runs have been infamous for what the band has done with the eight days, including special covers, wild left-field sit-ins, and songs you haven’t heard in a long time if you’re a super fan.
And based on the first night invite list, this run is going to be another monster.
Steve Gunn and William Tyler took the Jerry Garcia classic, “Mission In The Rain,” for a spin.
Fred Armisen joined on for some fun as well, including a big jam with Yo La Tengo anchoring and Armisen, Gunn and Tyler all tackling the Grateful Dead jam, “Wharf Rat.”
Here’s the setlist and some more fan-shot videos from the show, including the punk-rock encore with Greg Hetson.
