ContactMusic.com is reporting that Peter Gabriel recently spilled the beans to Rolling Stone that Phish had approached him about recreating the Genesis album, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, most likely for one of the band’s Halloween performances.
Sure enough, here’s the interview with Gabriel via RollingStone.com…
Have you ever thought about singing Genesis songs at your solo shows like you used to do in the late 1970s?
I did actually. I was thinking about doing “Supper’s Ready” for a while and I did talk to the band about it, but I think it was a lot of work for them and we were already on the road and I couldn’t really raise much enthusiasm. And then Phish – they do these projects where they take an old record and do it. I had a conversation about The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway with them at one point.
Wow. They wanted you to sing it with them?
Yeah. They were thinking about it. That didn’t go anywhere, but those were the only times I sort of thought about it.
Maybe the band rehearsals for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame got them thinking that’d be a prime contender for their Halloween 2010 show in Atlantic City where the band ultimately covered Little Feat Waiting for Columbus. How sick would that have been, though…maybe it’s still something that can happen. Not this year, though; at best it’ll be a wild return of Halloween 2012 with a full Genesis album with Peter Gabriel. #kangfirmed
If you haven’t seen them already, here are the Hall of Fame induction ceremony performances of “Watcher of the Skies” and “No Reply at All”…
