I’m chillaxing pretty hard today and enjoying this fine bay coastal weather, but I thought I’d drop a few words on the site about the Robyn show I saw on Friday night here at Bimbo’s 365. I doubt I’ll do a full review, because I didn’t really get too many good photos and it’s hard to write a review of this show that’s a bit more than “it was fun.” Because that’s really all I can say as a takeaway for this performance — Robyn’s style of pop music just isn’t something I’m always into, especially her ballad and girl power excursions during the evening. The crowd was absolutely into every second, though; most in attendance knew every word to the song and Robyn seemed pretty humbled by the whole experience. And it really was entertaining as hell.
She opened up with “Cobrastyle,” which probably looked a lot like this version shot at the Wiltern in LA. The set ebbed and flowed a bit, and the place just went absolutely crazy for “Konichiwa Bitches,” a song that sounds exactly like every single M.I.A. song I’ve ever heard (and there’s nothing at all wrong with that). After that I probably could have left and been fully satisfied, but I stayed around until the end and kept sweating in that hot club. Good times.
Read on for the roundup of the posts we did this past week. Also, drop some comments if there’s anything cool coming up this week worth posting about. We miss stuff sometimes.
