Soundgarden reformed last year after 13 years on the shelf for a number of big one-offs that included a spot at Perry Farrell’s Lollapalooza festival in Chicago and the band released their first live album Live On I-5 earlier this year. I for one am pretty psyched to finally see the band. Their 1994 breakout album Superunknown was the first CD I ever recall picking up when I was an open book watching the MTV Top 20 every Friday getting my education along with everyone else in the still-new genre of grunge music led by Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Nirvana. If fans are upset with Soundgarden’s “lack of current relevance,” just view it as a huge step-up from KISS in 2009 and Ozzy in 2010, both of whom incited an early exit from the park from me. Soundgarden seems to still be able to bring it on-stage, and their selection as headliners should make for a rowdy night in City Park. Now let’s see what else Voodoo’s got up their sleeve…
