“Play Me, I’m Yours” is an artwork by British artist Luke Jerram who has been touring the project globally since 2008.
From 9am-10pm each day, 60 pianos will be available to play across New York City. Presented by Sing for Hope they are located in public parks, streets and plazas the pianos will be available until 5th July for any member of the public to play and engage with.
The Wall Street Journal has some more insight into how it’s going down with a highlight on the band Jukebox the Ghost, who I caught at the Hot Freaks party at SXSW a few years back.
“Play Me, I’m Yours,” which appeared in eight cities before arriving here, will offer pianos to anyone who wants to play them through July 5. The installation, which began Monday, was spearheaded by the New York-based nonprofit arts group Sing for Hope, which navigated city bureaucracies, raised funds and accumulated donated pianos.
Though the event is intended as an exploration of mass creativity and shared public space, another dynamic has emerged: Musicians are piggybacking on the project to promote themselves and their music.
