At Summer Camp 2006, HeadCount — the jamband scene’s answer to Rock the Vote — setup a table near one of the stages and allowed fans to signup and register to vote in the midterm elections coming up in the fall. I’ve always admired HeadCount and what they’re doing, and hell, I needed to register myself. I thought “yeah, I’ll stop by there before I take off…”
The next day while watching someone on the main stage — maybe Yonder? — a HeadCount volunteer walked by with a clipboard full of voter registration forms. I signed up right there while sipping my beer and watching the main stage.
It was at that moment that I realized that HeadCount and their volunteers are the real deal. Voting is important. HeadCount says, “we realize that and we’re going to do what needs to be done to get people registered, even if it means bringing the voter registration forms to them while they’re sipping a beer and watching Yonder Mountain String Band.”

Attendees at the second annual Vegoose festival will experience an eclectic lineup of music, some Halloween fun, and a gentle reminder that an important election is just days away. Promoters Superfly Presents and A.C. Entertainment have teamed up with a not-for-profit organization called HeadCount.org to mix voter education in with the music and Las Vegas-style amusement.
“This will be one of the largest gathering of people in America within the 10 days before the election,” he said. “Our goal is to make sure every person attending Vegoose is touched by the message that midterm elections matter.”
